Eight reasons to park your coach and explore Northeast Ohio this summer and fall — all within easy reach of Geneva-on-the-Lake.
One of the quiet pleasures of life at Lake Erie Shores is waking up to the lake and still finding yourself, within minutes, in the middle of everything worth doing in Ashtabula County. This region has always known how to celebrate — with its wine, its water, its history, and its seasons. From late June through mid-October, the calendar fills up fast. Here’s what’s ahead.
Summer 2026
Historic Ashtabula Harbor · Bridge Street Lake Erie has been quietly working its magic on broken glass for decades — tumbling it smooth, frosting it into jewels. Every June, the artisans who collect it bring their best work to the Historic Ashtabula Harbor. Nearly 100 vendors and jewelers fill Bridge Street with creations in every color of the spectrum, from seafoam to cobalt to the rare, coveted orange. Live music plays against the backdrop of the working Bascule Lift Bridge. For beachcombers and art lovers alike, this is the weekend that kicked off summer properly.
Historic Ashtabula Harbor · Bridge Street
Two Northeast Ohio staples, one perfect weekend. Since 2008, this three-day summer tradition has brought nearly 20,000 people to the Historic Ashtabula Harbor to celebrate the best the region has to offer: Ohio wines poured, freshly sizzling walleye and perch from Lake Erie, live music on the main stage, and a street fair packed with local art and handmade goods. There’s also a fishing tournament, a lighted boat parade, fireworks cruise, and even a 5K race if you’re feeling ambitious. It’s the kind of event that earns the word “tradition.”
Conneaut Township Park · Conneaut
Every August, a stretch of Lake Erie beach in Conneaut becomes Normandy. D-Day Conneaut is the largest D-Day reenactment in the country — over 1,800 reenactors, WWII tanks, period aircraft flying overhead, paratrooper drops, living history encampments, and mock amphibious landings that have moved grown adults to tears. About 45,000 people attend across the three-day weekend. Since 1999, this event has served as one of the most powerful living tributes to the sacrifice of veterans anywhere in the United States. Admission is free (tickets required — available June 6 at ddayohio.us), and donations support the nonprofit that makes it all possible.
Tickets are free but limited — reserve yours on June 6 when they release.
Fall 2026
The Strip · Geneva-on-the-Lake
Every year, the weekend after Labor Day, tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts descend on Geneva-on-the-Lake for the largest local bike rally in Northeast Ohio. Thunder on the Strip has been running since 2006, and it only gets bigger. All weekend the Strip pulses with live music from classic rock to acoustic sets, motorcycle stunt shows, the legendary Thunder Bar Hop, a Founder’s Parade, and a crowd that comes from all over the country. Whether you ride or just love the spectacle, this is one of the most energetic weekends of the year in Geneva-on-the-Lake — and you’re parked right in the middle of it.
Historic Ashtabula Harbor · Bridge Street
Organized by the Lift Bridge Community Association alongside Cloven Hoof Brewery, the Bula Brewfest brings together craft breweries from across Northeast Ohio and beyond for an afternoon of tastings, food trucks, and music in the Historic Ashtabula Harbor. The festival started as a neighborhood celebration and has grown into a genuine destination event for craft beer lovers. With the Bascule Bridge and the waterfront as a backdrop, sipping your way through taster flights on a September afternoon doesn’t feel like roughing it.
Throughout Ashtabula County
Ashtabula County has 19 covered bridges — including both the longest and the shortest covered bridges in the United States. Every second full weekend in October, when the maples and oaks are at their most spectacular, the county celebrates them with its beloved Covered Bridge Festival. Free driving tour maps guide you from bridge to bridge through countryside that looks like it belongs in a painting. Along the way: craft shows, live entertainment, food, antique engines, a quilt show, children’s activities, and a queen’s pageant. It’s one of the most distinctly Ohio fall experiences you’ll find anywhere — and the scenery makes every mile worth it.
Peak fall color and 19 bridges to discover — allow a full day for the driving tour.
